Best of 2011: Most anticipated in 2012

This post is part of Sarah Enni‘s Best of 2011 Blog Circus. Up today: the five most anticipated books to be released in 2012.

There are a few books that have been on my radar for almost all of 2011. Books that I am dying to read. Books that I can’t wait to hold in my hand. Books that release this coming year and constantly tempt me with their pretty, pretty covers. This list did not have to be limited to YA books, but somehow, that’s how mine turned out. What can I say? I love me some YA. And because I’m incapable of picking just five, this list features one extra title.

#6
Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I’m incredibly excited to see where Roth takes this next installment of the series. Not only am I anxious to spend some more time with Tris and Four, but I’m really interested in learning more about the other factions. Come on, May 28th. Get here faster, please!

#5
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

I met Jessica over the summer at a conference and if anything, it only made me more anxious to read this debut! I’ve heard nothing but good things and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. It comes out the day before my birthday, so I suppose I can treat myself as a gift. Right? February 7th, people. Mark your calendars!

#4
The Drowned Cities by Paolo Bacigalupi

The sequel to SHIP BREAKER! The first book in this trilogy was such a thrilling and thought-provoking ride. I’m so excited to return to Nailer’s world, even if it is a bit of a terrifying one. I’ll start prepping myself now so that come May 1st I’m ready.

#3
Cinder by Marissa Meyer

A Cinderella retelling featuring cyborgs? Sign me up. I have a soft spot for all things fairy tale, and this is another debut I’ve heard great things about. I’m planning on racing out January 3rd to buy my copy! (I can’t believe how soon that is!)

#2
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

A new John Green novel! Need I say more? I will admit that I am so happy this is narrated by a girl! It will be interesting to see how Green executes this. I usually shy away from books focused around cancer — they are just so depressing — but I have complete faith given the author. And this one also comes out early in 2012. January 10th! (I even got my copy this past week due to the infamous B&N mix-up. I might not be able to wait til January to start reading, but I promise to not spoil a thing for other readers!)

#1
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

I cannot believe some people had to wait two and a half years between FIRE and this novel. I suppose I’m lucky, in a way, for only just discovering Cashore’s books this year. This is easily the 2012 novel I am most anxious for. The Seven Kingdoms is a world I will gladly visit any day of the week, and knowing that Bitterblue is taking center stage, with appearances from favorites like Katsa and Po, well let’s just say I’m a happy girl. May 1st, baby! May 1st.

2012 will be here in just a few hours. Yes, hours! 33 to be exact. Crazy, right? What books are you most looking forward to in the new year?
